We’re sure all of you have been bombarded by emails regarding companies’ responses to the growing COVID-19 crisis, so we’d like to get straight to the point and make sure all of our students and parents are up to date on recent announcements from ACT and the College Board.  Fortunately, our online prep platform will allow us continue to meet with our students without interruption to prepare for the next rounds of SATs and ACTs.

The April 4 ACT is cancelled:

From ACT’s website: “ACT has rescheduled its April 4 national test date to June 13 across the U.S. in response to concerns about the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19). All students registered for the April 4 test date will receive an email from ACT in the next few days informing them of the postponement and instructions for free rescheduling to June 13 or a future national test date.”

More information here.

Students signed up for the April ACT will be able to transfer this registration to a future date; ACT has stated it will email testers with information.  We recommend that all students preparing for ACT sign up ASAP for the June 13 ACT now; when re-registration information is provided by ACT, promptly transfer the April registration to the July 18 test date, for two reasons: we expect that many test centers will fill up for July 18, and we don’t know whether the June 13 ACT will be administered or not.

The May 2 SAT and SAT Subject Tests are cancelled:

From the College Board, “In response to the rapidly evolving situation around the coronavirus (COVID-19), we are canceling the May 2 SAT administration and March 14 makeup.”

More information here.

As far as we can tell from College Board’s announcement, registrations for March 14 and May 2 SATs will be refunded, not rescheduled. The next SATs are June 6 and late August (likely 22 or 29); for those students planning to take SAT Subject Tests pertaining to courses taken during the 2019-2020 school year, plan to take the SAT Subject Tests on June 6; for students planning to take the full SAT but not SAT Subject Tests, sign up for the SAT on June 6.  We recommend signing up ASAP to secure a seat.  Registration for the late August SAT is not yet open; last year, registration for the August test opened on 4/19, so check back in roughly a month.

It is also possible, though not explicitly clear from College Board’s announcement, that additional test dates may be planned.

AP Tests remain scheduled as planned, but they may also be postponed or administered at home:

From the College Board on 3/13, “To help schools and students, we’re focused on:

  • Supporting student learning of the remaining content and skills in the course.
  • Providing flexible and streamlined testing opportunities and partnering with colleges and universities to ensure that students can still receive the college credit they have been striving to earn all year long.

The AP Exam administration remains as scheduled for schools that will be open on May 4–8 and 11–15, with late testing scheduled for May 20–22.”

From College Board’s 3/16 update, “The AP Program is developing resources to help schools support student learning during extended closures, as well as a solution that would allow students to test at home, depending on the situation in May. Additional information will be posted by March 20.”

See College Board’s updates here.

We will keep an eye on this situation.  If students would benefit from work with our tutors to finish the AP curriculum and/or review for the upcoming test, we recommend contacting us ASAP to secure a spot, as we expect high demand.

A few additional thoughts:

  • It is our recommendation that students continue with prep through the June SAT/ACT. Students have worked so hard to get ready for the April ACT and March/May SAT, and many will be understandably upset about the delay in their testing.  We are too!  Let us know how we can continue to help—whether through continued tutoring sessions or help planning additional self-paced homework or study material.
  • We expect that most or all students are now doing some form of remote learning. As students are at home and extracurricular activities are cancelled for the spring, many students may want to adjust their tutoring schedules or add tutoring time.  Please let us know if this is the case for your student, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your request.
  • We’re more than happy to discuss your student’s case individually and help create a plan for how to navigate this unprecedented situation. Please correspond via email or schedule time for a phone call via email, and we’ll figure out the appropriate next steps.

We hope you and your family remain safe and healthy.
